Washing machines have been around for centuries, and their use has become increasingly commonplace in recent years. It is also known as a laundry machine, clothes washer, or washer which is technically a home appliance used to wash laundry.

However, many people are wondering if this home appliance uses a boiler. So, in this blog post, I’d answer the popularly asked question “Does Washing Machine Use Boiler?”

The answer is yes – washing machines use boilers, but not all washing machines. Basically, there are two kinds of clothes washers which are – the front-loading clothes washer and the top-loading washer.

The front-loading clothes washer does not use a boiler. Instead, they use a heating substance to heat the water that is employed to launder the clothes.

This implies that you just have to hook up cool water to the clothes washer, and it will heat the water to the required temperature. This heating substance is usually fixed at the bottom of the front-loading clothes washer.

However, the top-loading washer requires the need of an external boiler or water heater due to the absence of a heating substance in it. Although not all top-loading laundry machines use a boiler, most of them, particularly the modern ones do not use boilers.

These machines typically have heating substances on the lid of the machine, and the water is heated by these substances before it starts washing.

Further, while boiler use in clothes washer is not very common, there are a few models that do use them. This type of washing machine is typically more expensive and is not as widely available as models that do not use boilers.

Boiler-using clothes washers are typically found in commercial settings, such as laundromats or dry cleaners.

The main advantage of a washing machine that uses a boiler is that it can wash clothes at higher temperatures. This is ideal for settings where there is a concern about bacteria or viruses, such as in hospitals or food processing plants.

If you are considering purchasing a clothes washer that employs a boiler, it is vital to have in mind the high cost and the limited availability of these models.

Can I use my washing machine with a broken boiler?

Simply put, yes and no. You might be wondering why I’m giving two different answers. This is because each answer depends on some factors like the clothes you want to launder and the kind of washer you have.

If you own a laundry machine that wasn’t manufactured to heat water itself but needs the use of a water heater or boiler, then you can’t utilize the appliance when your water boiler is spoiled. This type of laundry appliance is made with dual inputs for hot and cool water.

With these inputs, they can pick water from your apartment – hot water from your water heater and cold water.

If the clothes appliance has been receiving hot water from your heater to launder your clothing, but suddenly the heater got spoiled, if it doesn’t have an internal heating element, it will draw cold water from your water supply and employ it to launder your clothing.

This shouldn’t be much of a problem if the cloth you want to launder doesn’t mandate the use of hot water. However, if the clothes washer has been receiving water from your heater and the boiler spoils, if it has an internal heating substance, it will heat the cold water that it gets from your water supply.

Moving forward, you just need to know the kind of clothes washer you have – if it heats on its own or not. You can read the user manual of your clothes washer to confirm or contact the manufacturer for more details about the clothes washer.

Does a washing machine heat its own water?

Of course, a clothes washer heats its own water, but not all laundry machines. As aforementioned, there are two ways clothes washers are made- top-loading and front-loading. The top loading washer was first invented before the front-loading, so the older ones do not heat their own water.

This implies that for the older version of the top-loading laundry machines, you’d need to have them connected to a boiler or your apartment water heater to get hot water for laundry.

The good news here is the top-loading washer has newer models with the ability to heat its own water. However, the all-time good news is that all front-loading laundry appliances have the ability to heat their own water, and it is usually located at the bottom.

One thing about the clothes washer that heats their water is that they heat it to the needed water temperature without having you worry. Thus, before you obtain a clothes washer, it is vital that you take note of the heating substance. In fact, they are cheaper than those that use a boiler.

Is it better to buy a washing machine with an internal water heater?

Absolutely, yea! It is much better to buy a laundry appliance with an internal water heater. Why? The washer with an internal water heater is better than normal clothes washer in terms of performance. They wash away the debris and stains from clothes even when employing cold water than those washers without an inbuilt water heater.

Generally, the inbuilt water heaters are fixed in front-loading clothes washers which clean clothes better than top-loading laundry appliances. Most of the time, you won’t need to employ hot water except if the clothes are super dirty, but even with cold water, the front-loading washer would do justice to your clothes.

For washers that do not have an inbuilt water heater, they require a large amount of water, and to heat that much water and pour it into the washer, can be stressful, and tiring, and I’m sure no one would want to do something like that.

While laundry washers that have an internal water heater, pick up the needed water, heat the water to the needed temperature, and shuts the heater when the water has heated enough to prevent it from consuming too much energy.

Hence, you can say washers without an inbuilt water heater consume energy and are stressful to use. While washers with inbuilt heaters do not consume energy and are easy to use.

FAQs

What are the pros and cons of using a washing machine for laundry?

Though there are two different kinds of laundry washers, but both are effective to the needed extent. However, despite being effective, they have pros and cons that you should be aware of. Based on my estimation, the pros and cons of using a laundry machine are 70% / 30%.

I would share them with you below, so you can be able to rate them before purchasing one.

Pros of using a laundry machine

Reduces the amount of money you’d spend

Most new clothes have instructions about the best way to wash them, and it is best you wash them yourself to prevent the colors from bleaching.

So, for those that require dry cleaning or the use of a clothes washer, you can easily use your clothes washer to do the washing – instead of taking it to a dry cleaner. That way you’d be able to save money.

Spend less energy and time while doing your laundry

With a laundry appliance, you won’t need to employ your energy to hand wash your clothing. Plus, you will launder your cloth faster than if you use your hands to wash them.

Also, by employing a clothes washer, you’d get the clean result you desire in your clothes.

Increases the longevity of your clothing

The clothes washer has different settings for laundering and the most used is the delicate cycle. With this cycle, your clothes would be laundered carefully, whilst the dirt is being washed away.

When the dirt and stains are washed away properly, your clothes would last longer than expected. But when stains are not properly washed off, the appearance of your clothes would degrade.

Reduces your work

When you hand wash your clothes, it is technically more work for you than when you use a clothes washer.

The use of a laundry machine would not stress your muscles and your joints.

Cons of using a laundry machine for your laundry

Damages clothes

A laundry machine can damage clothes in such a way that you won’t be able to wear them again. However, this depends. If you put a cloth made with a very soft material in your washing machine to launder, it is bound to rip off.

The best way to wash cloth like that is by putting them in a laundry bag before putting them in your washer to wash.

Employs less water

While the use of a little amount of water is an advantage for employing a clothes washer, it is also a disadvantage. This is because it would not use enough water to get rid of the detergent that was utilized to launder the clothes. This can damage your clothes.

Conclusion- Does Washing Machine Use Boiler?

A clothes washer uses a boiler, but not all of them. Those that have an interior heater do not use a boiler, but those that don’t have an inbuilt heater use boiler.
